The verdict against James Evans came after a trial that began Wednesday. The victim testified that she went to sleep one night at her home on Community Drive and woke up to find Evans standing in her doorway, wearing latex gloves.

According to arrest reports, Evans then “told her not to worry, he wasn’t going to hurt her” before he performed a sex act on her, forced her to perform a sex act on him, and then raped her.

Police linked Evans to the case when he called the victim after the rape. The victim later picked Evans and another man as her possible attacker out of a lineup, and police arrested him after they matched his DNA to swabs of DNA taken from the victim’s breasts and neck.

Police found latex gloves at Evans’ home, along with a knife that matched the description of the weapon the victim said her rapist showed her after the attack. Evans was charged with burglary, sexual battery and other charges.

Circuit Judge Samantha Schosberg Feuer is expected to sentence Evans on May 19.
